Monkey's first trip to the zoo.

I tend to overcompensate perhaps for things I didn't have as a child with Finnigan. We grew up with very little money and a grandmother who helped raise us who was fairly strict and old school, and believed that kids were to be seen and not heard. So we were rarely allowed the opportunity to go anywhere or experience anything outside of our bedrooms. I blame that lack of stimulation and socialization that my poor little brother experienced to be the cause behind his autism, so I am always attempting to engage Finnigan in his environment and new experiences. I also only have ONE baby picture, and so I take pounds and pounds of pictures of Finnigan because he changes so fast, I want to be able to chronicle and remember all of it.

Anyways, so the baby woke up yesterday, feeling MUCH happier. He slept very well last night, which I think really helped, and had a nice early morning poo. Which is always a pick-me-upper. =)

So, we took advantage of his good mood, and took our first trip to the zoo. Colin made fun of me for wanting to take a baby to the zoo, but I think in the end he was glad that we did. The Des Moines zoo is just the right size for a small child, or baby. By the time the baby was over it, and ready to eat we were done walking the whole zoo and were heading home anyways. Baby in particular enjoyed the train, and the noises of The Ice Age Exhibit. I believe he thought Mommy was being silly and making noises again. He really had no interest in any of the animals, and cried when I tried to introduce him to a goat. However, he loved looking around at the trees, and the people, and having the wind in his face. He just enjoyed the stroll and mommy and daddy liked having things to look at while we walked him. Next year I will likely just by a zoo pass as it's just blocks from where we live and has several children's playgrounds, so I think this will be a popular hangout place for Finnigan when he gets a little older.
